RYK Modular Side FX: four chainable effects in a 14 HP Eurorack module

Reverbs, delays, granular and glitch across four blocks in series or parallel, under CV and MIDI control: RYK Modular Side FX ships at £330 excluding tax.

UK maker RYK Modular has launched Side FX, a Eurorack effects module that runs four effects at once. It launched and started shipping on 15 October 2026, according to the official product page. For a modular system with no effects section yet, it is a way to put everything in 14 HP.

Four blocks, seven chain layouts

Side FX loads one effect algorithm into each of its four blocks. Seven chain algorithms arrange those blocks in series, in parallel or in a mix of both, including dual mono: two chains of two effects processing two separate sounds.

The effect list announced by RYK:

  • Delays: dual pitch shift-delay, dual delay, band delay, tap delays, tape delay.
  • Reverbs: plate, FDN (feedback delay network) and modal.
  • Textures: granulator, glitch, modulated comb filters, quad resonator, phase shifter, all-pass filter chains.
  • Colour: tape simulation, wave shapers.

Presets are saved to the internal SD card and can be shared. Each block has an FX send that can be switched by hand or by CV, handy for throwing only certain notes into the delay, dub-style.

Modulation and connections

Four CV inputs can be assigned to any parameter, alongside a clock input to lock delays to tempo and a MIDI input (on a mini-jack). If your system has no spare LFO, the module brings its own LFOs, a random source and an envelope follower (which turns a signal’s level into a modulation voltage). The panel shows two audio inputs and two outputs: the module works in stereo.

One figure to watch: 300 mA on the +12 V rail. That is a lot for one module; in a small case, check your power supply’s headroom before ordering. Our guide Eurorack explained: what to know before buying your first case shows how to work out that budget. The 25 mm depth, on the other hand, makes it a good fit for shallow travel cases.

Who is it for?

Eurorack owners who want a complete effects section without lining up three or four dedicated modules: reverb, delay and granular texture in one slot, all under CV control. Live players who want to recall an entire effects chain from a preset will find it useful. If you are after a high-end reverb with direct controls, a dedicated module will still be more immediate.

How much?

RYK Modular lists Side FX at £330 excluding tax on its own shop, shipping from the UK. The maker does not publish an official price in other currencies.

What does it compete with?

  • Expert Sleepers disting NT: a much wider multi-algorithm platform (22 HP, plus a 2 HP MIDI breakout) that goes beyond effects (sampler, utilities). More versatile, bigger.
  • Strymon StarLab: high-end reverb and delay with Karplus string synthesis, but 28 HP and a single job. More specialised, twice as wide.

Side FX sits between the two: four simultaneous effects in 14 HP, with serial/parallel chaining as its main selling point. How good the algorithms sound remains to be judged by ear.
