Erica Synths Konstrukt-8: the modular analog drum machine now comes assembled

The Konstrukt-8, an analog drum machine built from eight Eurorack modules with Moritz Klein, is no longer kit-only: the assembled version starts at €520 excl. VAT.

Erica Synths now sells the Konstrukt-8 fully assembled. Launched in March 2026 as a build-it-yourself kit designed with electronics educator Moritz Klein, this analog drum machine is made of eight Eurorack modules: four percussion voices, a sequencer, a mixer and two effects. The assembled version is up for pre-order on Erica Synths’ product page, with shipping estimated for 18 October 2026.

Who it is for

The Konstrukt-8 follows a knob-per-function design: every parameter has its own front-panel control, with no menus, no presets and no controls shared between voices. That makes it a fit for:

  • Players who build beats live and would rather turn a knob than scroll a screen: each voice has its own sequencer channel, and patterns are tapped in in real time.
  • Modular users: all eight modules are standard Eurorack and work in any other system. CV inputs (control voltage, the signal that carries modulation from one module to the next) let you drive pitch, decay or accent from outside. Our guide to the Eurorack format and choosing a first case helps if you are eyeing the case-less version.
  • Anyone tempted by the kit but not the soldering: this is the same instrument as the DIY version, minus the build time.

It is not an all-in-one production drum machine: the product page lists neither pattern memory nor MIDI. Syncing goes through the clock inputs and outputs on the sequencer’s front panel.

What it costs

Four fully analog voices

  • Kick drum: a resonant bridged-T network (a filter that rings when struck by a short pulse) for deep, punchy kicks.
  • Snare drum: a burst of filtered transistor noise layered over a tuned resonator.
  • Hi-hat: six detuned square-wave oscillators, mixed, filtered and overdriven for a metallic tone.
  • FM drum: two oscillators modulating each other (frequency modulation), good for kicks, toms, bells, cymbal-like sounds and even simple bass lines and leads.

Sequencer, mixer and effects

  • Four-channel sequencer built on shift registers: the pattern is stored as a circular chain of on/off steps that loops round. You tap the rhythm in as you play. On the panel, each channel has a length switch and a half-time function, and two syncable triangle LFOs are there to modulate the voices.
  • Four-channel mixer with a per-channel effect send, a master insert point and variable diode distortion.
  • BBD (bucket-brigade delay, an analog chip that delays sound by passing it along a chain of capacitors) with flanger and delay modes.
  • Diode compressor with sidechain input: compression can be triggered by another signal, such as the kick making the rest of the beat pump.

Line and headphone outputs; it measures 26.5 × 27.5 × 6 cm. Erica Synths’ official demo, filmed for the kit version, shows the same modules:

What it competes with

  • Moog’s DFAM is the other well-known semi-modular analog percussion box, also Eurorack-compatible: a single voice (two oscillators plus noise) driven by an eight-step sequencer. It is more experimental and does not replace a full kit; the Konstrukt-8 brings four dedicated voices, a mixer and two effects.
  • Arturia’s DrumBrute Impact remains the entry point for analog drum machines, at a much lower price, with a pattern-memory sequencer and MIDI. The trade-off is a fixed architecture: no patching, no modules to reuse elsewhere.
  • Erica Synths’ own Perkons HD-01 also has four voices, with a full sequencer and memories in a closed desktop format, at a clearly higher price.

The Konstrukt-8’s appeal is that it works twice: as a drum machine you can play straight away, and as eight modules that can later join a larger Eurorack system. The cost is no memories, no MIDI, and a sequencer built for performance rather than arrangement.
